Stop. Glamorizing. Depression.

Hello my friends! Hope you all had lovely eid holidays, as did I! I come to you today with a topic that's rather sordid, but its one that I feel we all need to discuss and understand.

Depression is a serious mental illness. Maybe I should put that in bold; it's an ILLNESS. Like cancer. We wouldn't associate ourselves with cancer, or even the measles, then whyyyy do we rush to diagnose ourselves as depressed?? So many early-teens and teenagers are misdiagnosing themselves with depression, just because they get a little sad, or even VERY sad. We're humans, we're bound to feel sad some days. We go on tumblr and we see pretty photos with sad writing on them, and pretty girls with sad eyes and sad scars and we mistake them for 'angels who want to go home'. We want to be sad. Because apparently sad is unique and sad is quirky. Sad is mysterious. Sad makes us different, and someone will like how unique we are and kiss our scars and put out our cigarettes and make it all better. Or the world will see how bravely you've been suffering, how absolutely brave you've been.

CAN YOU SEE HOW FLAWED THAT THINKING IS??? Life is not a freakin' John Green book. It's okay to feel sad, or angry or lazy sometimes. But if you let it take you over, if you say it's become a part of you, well you're just lying to yourself. Depression, self-harm, freakin' suicide are not beautiful, are not fun and should not be thought of as beautiful or fun. So next time you feel sad and decide to write that very sad piece you're going to write, just make sure you don't make it sound like you have a mental illness. It's very offending to people who actually HAVE the illness.

When I was 15, I too, like younger girls nowadays THOUGHT I was depressed. I suppose teenage is when you really start experiencing actual sadness over stuff. Before that you're too young to care about most stuff. Do you remember being truly deeply sad over anything as a 9 year old? Probably not.

So, I misdiagnosed myself. I mean, sad thoughts? Check. Trouble sleeping? Weight gain? Oh that definitely has to do with depression, not the fact that I'm shoving 15 kinds of cake in my mouth and quickly turning into Augustus Gloop. (who, if you'll remember, was great big nincompoop, much like 15 year old KD.)

Anyway, I started getting worried because in addition to thinking I was depressed, I thought I was Bipolar and also suffered from a Split Personality Disorder, and wasn't getting any treatment, oh no. So, aged 16, I went to my mother, told her everything, and she told me something that made so much sense.
See, we're all humans, right? (No jokes pls) And we all have a brain that allows us to feel emotions like sadness, rage or euphoria. Sometimes, when the brain becomes ill as in the case of mental illnesses, it messes up and triggers waaaayyy more emotion than is needed. So those individuals feel excessively sad, or excessively angry, or even both for alternating periods of times. So basically those same standard emotions, are being portrayed in way more drastic amounts, leading to very serious illnesses. And because normal healthy people like us experience those same emotions, but in NORMAL amounts, we misdiagnose ourselves with something terrible. Makes sense, no?

And of course, sometimes, we feel like a mental illness is the perfect excuse to not doing anything, or not meeting anybody, or just being really anti-social in general. And I mean, I'm sure we can agree that our generation is the most anti-social one yet. So depression gives us an excuse to feel irrationally angry or sad or grumpy. I hope you're seeing the whole point of this post. If not, lemme tell you. The point is, illnesses are NOT to be taken lightly. Depression is not beautiful. Flowers don't grow out of scars. Suicidal people aren't trapped angels. Whats beautiful, is your life, and no matter how cliche this sounds, it IS very precious, and it's not eternal, unless you're a vampire, in which case hullo immortal being, SO TRY TO MAKE THE MOST OF IT. Stop brooding, stop being sad, stop thinking sad is rad because its not. Happy is rad. Happy is pretty. Happy is nice. BE HAPPY, YOU SILLY POTATOES.
And now I will insert a cute little GIF of a doggie, because that makes me so very happy.

Is this how we think now?

So I read an article on Thought Catalog a while back, and it struck me as very accurate. The article, which you can find here, is basically about how people date nowadays, but one part in particular caught my attention...

Instant rosy winter glow

I once read a genius tip online for an instant blush in emergency situations, and this has been a total game changer for me. This not only works for when you need to liven up your face but don't have any makeup on you, but also for regular days when you dont wanna put in too much effort/are in a hurry. The trick is to...

Nice Sounds.

So true, is it not? And can we add hoof-beats to the list? And the sound of rain?
What are your favorite sounds?

I am your Queen.

18 years of procrastination? Is no joke. Hi, I'm Khadija Muzaffar, and I'll be your Queen today, tomorrow and every day after that. Especially today. Becuz I sayzz so.

Acha this was just to subtly hint that I am 18 today. It is indeed my birthday. So much for subtle. But oh well. Who cares, not meee.

In case you're wondering if I have any amazingly off-the-hook (Did I just say 'off-the-hook'??? What is this, the 80's??) plans for my birthday, the answer is yes. The answer is also a lie. My plans most probably include getting to know a New York Cheesecake. I wanna know that sucker inside out, so naturally, I will HAVE to devour it, ok?? Don't judge me, this is a very sensitive time. In two years, I will be 20. YES TWENTY ZOMGG. I feel 12, so then is it fair to call me a twenty year old? Okay, so you're NOT calling me that, but are you thinking it? Please dont :( I'm only 17. 18. I'm 18.

I can drive now. (Like, officially and legally.)

I can party hard till I die. (LOOOL AS IFFF)

I can...go study, and not blog till like, November. Yikes. Yep, that is what I will be doing. Adios my non-existent readers. Just because you dont exist, doesn't mean I don't love ya!!
Hugs, Kisses and a whole lotta prayers. We all need them. Seriously.
Later, ma loves

Sixteen Candles.

                     INTOXICATING.
It's funny. I write a sentence, and then I tap the backspace continuously till I'm back to square one. You've always had this effect on me, I've always wanted to be perfect for you, weird as that sounds. Some things never change, I guess.

Why is this post titled Sixteen Candles? Maybe it's because of my new Michael Schoeffling obsession. Or maybe just the thought of them, like you, makes me giddy, alive. But then again, you probably knew that didn't you? Anyway, I ran into you after ages. You didn't even look up, nor did we talk. If only I had known, I would have said something, if only. But oh boy. The effect it has had. It has been massive. I'm obsessed with you all over again. It's become maddening. I feel a little like Miley now, cause I can't stop and I won't stop. At least not right now. I know better than anyone else, how long it took me to go through this detox before. To get you out of my system. And now, the thought of having to go through this ordeal all over again, well, it's not something I look forward to.

What did we ever even have that was so...perfect? Did we even have anything? Didn't we just walk into this world with absolutely nothing at all? Then from where was this 'thing' thrust upon us? Does this sound too pseudo-intellectual? Sorry. But sometimes, I think it's just us putting ourselves through mental torture. Because it IS like that. We don't think before we leap, then we get hurt, and then we forget. And then we are reminded again, BY OURSELVES! Who DOES that?! Why? It's like a sick joke our mind is playing on us...

These past few days have been so...weird. It's like everywhere I turn, everything I do, there you are, silently watching me, with that steady intelligent look on your face. The same look that I came to love. The same look that I'll never see again. Do you know, I kind of forget to breath when I'm thinking of you. Every vision of you is so painstakingly beautiful, so vivid, so real that I feel like my heart will burst if I don't reach out for you. Yet when I do, when I extend my arms and bring my fingertips close to that deceiving vision, to know for sure if you really are here, you vanish. Just like that. Out of sight. But never out of mind. Never ever out of mind. Cause it's just not possible. You were the best. You ARE the best. And every single day is a reminder of that. I am breathing right now, because of that. You saved me. That is a debt I'll never be able to pay back, try as I may, because...

Well. It's getting dark now. And it's beginning to get chilly, so I think I should go home. I wanted to bring you flowers, but I couldn't find any vendors on the way. But I did steal a few poppies from a garden I crossed while coming here. Take these bright red flowers, and embark on this new journey. Or have you already set out? Either way, I hope it does you good. I wish the best for you, wherever you are.
I love you.
As you would say, Godspeed.

With Your Love.

Guys. Omg. 2000 hits. More than 2K hits. Thank you so much! Seriously, never thought I would make ittt :'D
And it's all because of you guys. Because you take the time to read all of this. Thenks bro.

A thing that I love, apart from increasing page views, is your feedback. Positive feedback is so so so important, and it makes my day when I hear a few loving words from you guys. It motivates me to continue this blog, and not just get lost in my own mundane routine.

So, a few days ago, a friend of mine messaged me  on Facebook, saying how much she enjoyed this blog. She told me that she too had renovated her own sneakers as I did here. So naturally, I asked her to send me a picture, and then I decided that I would show case her work of art over here as well.

So, I present to you, Ms. Mahnoor's version of tweaked up shoes!

As you can see, she went for a more pop-funk look. With vivid colors and bold patterns, these beauts will be a joy to wear in the summers.

What I specially love about them is the fact that they have an essence of symmetry to them as well. One side on each shoe has solid colors, and the other has trendy chic patterns.

I think they look amazing, and I'm so grateful to Mahnoor for being generous enough to share her creation with us.

Amazing! I think going totally creative like this is an amazing idea, and its a great way to spend time. Plus, when you end up with something as amazing as this, what have you got to lose?

Guys, thank you for reading all this. Thanks for giving me support :P
Stay happy, stay blessed, and remember me in this blessed month!
Loads of prayers for you all,
Khadija Muzaffar.

Lessons Learned.

Lessons Learned. Or learnt, both are correct. Everyday I learn so much, SO MUCH, that I begin to doubt what I already know. Same goes for all of you, I'm sure.
What beauty do these lessons remind us of? Well, the beauty of the fact that we can make mistakes, and then move on. Just like that. The beauty that we learn from our mistakes. We grow wiser and stronger and more prepared. So rounding up a few lessons I learnt:

1. Never neglect your pets.
Okay, so I was a little busy, and maybe I didn't bathe my dogs as often as I should have...happens, right? RIGHT?! But it shouldn't. I learnt that my dogs are my responsibility, and they are living things, therefore I need to take care of them. Otherwise I'll have to sweat it and spend a whole day relieving them of ticks...yuck :(

2. Urn is a vase.
Yes well. Urns are vases. CHURN is something else. Butter is churned. And lessons are learned ;)

3. NEVER FORGET YOUR HEROES!
Probably the most important lesson. We visited the Pakistan Monument Museum this Thursday, and I could almost feel the emotions that must've been running all over during that time. We have forgotten how much effort those people put into giving us the freedom we have today. It is majorly upsetting to see how our country is taking freedom for granted.
Bottom line: The lesson is to always love your country, and stop dissing your leaders. You get the same kind of leaders as you yourself are, so that's gotta mean something right?

And there you have it. Lessons from the week. I SOOO didn't feel like writing this, but I have to be punctual y'know :P My feet hurt like crazy, because I spent the morning driving around (and walking). I almost saw Sheikh Rasheed's house. Almost. Saving that for later. Khadija's Adventures In China Market. Coming up next :)

Well, I'm off to Lahore tomorrow IA. I miss my city. And on that sad note, I shall go to sleep. Have a great week guyzzzezz.
